Clinton County Court also known as The Clinton County Municipal Court works to provide the fairest administration of justice, with the highest level of respect, efficiency, integrity and commitment to serve the public with timely customer-oriented quality service toward preserving the County of Clinton as a safe and vital community. The Clinton County Court is comprised of 4 divisions: Traffic Division, Criminal Division, Civil Division, and Small Claims Division.

The Civil Division handles Unlawful Detainer Complaints and Physical Eviction Procedures. Clinton County Municipal Court is the appropriate Court to file Civil action if the following 3 apply: First, a defendant lives in Clinton County, or the defendant is a business that has its principal place of business in Clinton County. Second, a person was injured or personal property was damaged in Clinton County. Third, a defendant signed or entered into a contract in Clinton County, a defendant lived in Clinton County when the contract was entered into, a contract or obligation was to be performed in Clinton County, or the defendant was a corporation and the contract was breached in Clinton County. It would like to be noted that the court does not have any forms for filing a notice to leave premises or the appropriate complaint forms and certain procedures must be followed.

The Small Claims Court Division handles small matters in the simplest manner possible. A lawyer is not needed but may be present if desired. An action for money may be filed and this should not be for the return of property or for any other remedy. The maximum claim is $3,000.

An individual, company or corporation may file a claim against another individual, company or corporation. A claim for this may be filed in Clinton County Municipal Court if the following 3 apply: One, the individual, company or corporation you are suing lives or has its principal place of business in Clinton County. Two, the actions giving rise to the complaint occurred in Clinton County or three, the property that is the subject of the claim is located in Clinton County.
